11.45 is an early night but prob just as well since the new 'run everywhere' initiative is proving a little uncomfortable

A few weeks ago now I started running. I've never been keen on running, walking and cycling are fine, but I remember from school that running is that much hated adrenaline-inducing puking sickness thing that I have always tried to avoid.

I love walking, (I mean real walking where you actually end up somewhere different) but it really is so slow. So that's why typically I ride a bike (and riding a bike is so much fun! Neeeeooooowwww!). So I started running to see if I could actually get the hang of it. Then a wonderful thing happened.

Maybe it's my age or something, but running produced no ill effects - no shakes, no sick feeling, no black spots! I seemed to have found a pace straight away as well. I found I could happily run just under 3 miles each time.

So now, even if I'm heading across the village, I'll run there. With one drawback at the moment - my SHINS are killing me. I'm not sure what muscles or whatever lie there up the front of the boniest part of your body but at the moment, they ache so much. It's always odd when you exercise and the parts you least expect give you grief.

Anyway the running has been great. I got myself a £13 Nike+ iPod sensor to track my running habits and I'm away. The key thing I've found is to be in no hurry when running and to listen to my breathing - find a nice comfortable pace and enjoy it. The last thing you want to do is push it too hard and hate it.

Saying that though, I did recently accidentally run 6.5 miles of an intended 3. I wasn't really paying attention and thought I was making hard work of it. So I pushed a bit harder. Now that was sore the next day, but I enjoyed the adventure.
